Menfi, between sun, sea and emerald hills

Sicily is a kaleidoscope of different landscapes, wines and dishes. Crossing this region which gave birth to great writers such as Sciascia, Pirandello and Camilleri, means taking a journey into culture, embraced by Sicilian hospitality,
by the colors of the sea and the intense scents of the Mediterranean scrub. In the territory of Menfi, in the province of Agrigento, marked by emerald hills and sea breezes, stands Mandrarossa, one of the most interesting wineries of recent decades.

The unconventional wines of Mandrarossa.  

Wines are born here that interpret, without distorting them, both the local vines, but also the Italian ones such as Vermentino Larcéra, and international ones such as Sauvignon Urra di MarePetit Verdot Timperosse, which draw unique characters from the soil. The Cartagho Nero d’Avola 2019, with its impenetrable ruby,
it is a succession of sweet spices on the nose (cinnamon, liquorice, tobacco), Mediterranean scrub, balsamic notes (Swiss pine) and hints of sultanas. On the palate it is full, broad, fine, long, with velvety tannins.

Stuffed meat rolls (Bruciuluni)

Ingredients: 500 g thin veal cutlets, 200 g breadcrumbs, 250 g grated cheese, peeled tomatoes to taste, 1 small onion, EVO oil, salt and pepper. Preparation: blend breadcrumbs, cheese, finely chopped onion, tomatoes, salt, pepper and EVO oil,
until the mixture is soft and moist. Place the filling on the well-pounded meat and close the roll from the widest side to the shortest one. Grease the rolls and coat them in breadcrumbs, then fry them in a pan or in the oven at 170° for 15 minutes.

Mandrarossa is the daughter of Cantine Settesoli, among the cooperatives that have pushed the accelerator on quality and innovation over the last 60 years. A combination of entrepreneurial vision and solidity, which today make Mandrarossa a jewel that has been able to keep up with the times, with zoning and experiments on calcareous soils, to create unconventional wines. This is certainly thanks to the territory, but even more so to the desire of this company to be totally outside the box. A compelling discovery, Mandrarossa.
